Sysomos, Greek for "everything together", emerged from an advanced research project started in 2005 at the University of Toronto. The project led to the creation of a core content aggregation and analysis engine released as BlogScope in May 2006.

Toronto-based Sysomos was incorporated in September 2007 with the launch of MAP. An updated version of MAP was launched in June 2008.
